1700 YEARS TO COMPLETE THE MOVIE
Information about the Fylo/Hofstad tour movie

Okay, you all must immediately rush out and rent the movie Off the Charts (the song-poem story).

Seriously. Go rent it. It's only an hour long. In Seattle, Rain City has it in the new-releases section.

What can I say except un-fucking-believable.

It's a documentary about a part of the music industry where you send in a poem and people will put it to music. Apparently there are lots of places around the country that do this, they advertise in the back of magazines.

The songs are completely insane. They interview one guy who purposely wrote awful lyrics but the rest are painfully, hilariously sincere.

If the song titles alone don't get you interested, something is seriously wrong:

- Blind Man's Penis

- Non-Violent Taekwondo Troopers

- Three-Eyed Boy

- I'm A Ginseng Digger

Go now.

Added clip of the week 17, showing a few of the fans outside the Elbow Room after the show. These were carnival workers who were in town for the rodeo.

I hadn't posted anything recently because I've been preoccupied with a move to a different house. Thankfully the 200GB hard drive storing the movie appears to have survived the trip without any obvious problems.

Starting a new feature here, I'm going to list some of the interesting documentaries that I have been seeing lately.

Growin' A Beard: "the Citizen Kane of beard-growing DVDs." Short, silly, and lots of dorky beards. I'd never realized that there's an official name for what I've always called "the Abe Lincoln beard": it's called a "donegal".

Devil's Playground: a documentary about the Amish tradition of "rumspringa", where 16-year-old kids get to experience the mainstream outside world until they formally decide to choose an Amish life. Highly recommended.

Benjamin Smoke: one of the more depressing movies of all time, but you can't quite take your eyes away from it. The story of a speed-addict cross-dressing musician, whose band "Smoke" sounds a lot like Tom Waits. Beautifully filmed.

Gigantic (A Tale of Two Johns): the story of They Might Be Giants. If you really like the band, you'll probably like this movie. If you aren't already a huge fan, you probably won't be swayed either. I wasn't able to finish it.
